The fire service is currently dealing with an ongoing incident at the Milburngate development in Durham City.

As a result, Milburngate Bridge is currently closed and members of the public are being asked to avoid the area. Please take this into consideration if you are working at County Hall or elsewhere in the city today.

Local residents are also asked to close their doors and windows.

We are awaiting further details but, at this stage, understand that everyone has been safely evacuated.

Traffic is gridlocked so avoid the city centre if you can.
