A planning application has been submitted for the conversion of the closed Psyche clothing shop into a restaurant.
The building used to be Café Rouge. As a shop it has not been open since 2019.
We welcome the venture as the building occupies a central corner position at the end of Silver Street and adjacent to Framwellgate Bridge.
It fulfils our aim of having no empty retail units in the city. Whilst we are concerned about another shop closing, the building will have a new use. Whether Durham City needs more eating establishments is perhaps questionable but judging by the amount of new venues waiting to open by the summer Durham will have something for everyone.
