Lib Dem Councillors Richard Ormerod and David Freeman are delighted that the council’s Highways Committee this afternoon threw out a proposal to have a bus stop at the top of Hallgarth Street.
Arriva are wanting to re-route their buses out of Durham along Hallgarth Street rather than Church Street.
But this would cause traffic chaos for Hallgarth Street and extra pollution.
Both Richard and David spoke against the proposal as did former Lib Dem Councillor Sue Pitts, a resident of Hallgarth Street.
Cllr Freeman said:
“I am so pleased that the committee saw sense and didn’t do this to Hallgarth Street residents.”
Cllr Ormerod added:
“Arriva can still send buses along Hallgarth Street if they choose to. But the council has sent a strong message to them that we do not like this proposal.”
