Your councillors have been contacted by residents of Finney Court in Durham with regard to car parking in the communal areas of the street by non-residents.
It appears that several non-residents are regularly parking in Finney Court and then walking (presumably to work) in the city centre. Finney Court’s proximity to the city centre makes it a very attractive place to park whilst avoiding having to pay.
Cllr Richard Ormerod said:
“This is a problem for residents because it deprives residents of the parking spaces for which they pay and causes huge inconvenience for residents whose own vehicles become blocked in.
“It also causes a potential danger to residents as it could impede access to the flats for the emergency services, should this ever be needed.”
Durham County Council is unable to take any enforcement action as Finney Court is not council owned or public highway.
Your councillors are in touch with Kingston Property Services, who manage the properties, to find out what action they are able to take to ensure that car parking in Finney Court is reserved for the residents.
