DCC is planning to restart the young person’s swimming programme. Lessons are planned to start week beginning Monday 19 April.
There are a number of national restrictions required to maintain social distancing including reduced class sizes and limiting the number of spectators. Unfortunately this means it is not possible to accommodate every child wishing to take part at this point in time.
Most children have not been in a swimming pool for some time and the council would like to make sure their experience is safe and enjoyable. Swimming teachers will be adapting lessons for the first few weeks to help children regain their water confidence and renew their water skills.
There will also be no movement between swimming stages until restrictions ease. However swimming teachers are trained to teach mixed abilities and will make sure that the lessons meet everyone’s needs.
The Learn to Swim programme will restart at several pools in the county including Freeman’s Quay and Chester-le-Street leisure centres.
DCC is writing to all parents and carers to inform them of the changes. Customers will have the option to freeze their membership until they are allocated a place or until the place that they prefer becomes available. Customers can also cancel their membership.
