Great news. Our bids for funding for this project have both been successful. This project is an ambitious one to improve pedestrian links between The Sands and the city centre. It has been funds from the Neighbourhood Budget and also from Section 106 money. The funding is to be used for the replacement and repair of steps at various locations.
Works included:
Kepier Heights to Hillcrest: includes redesign of steps at top and bottom of this footpath with PCC kerbs and bituminous footway construction (anti slip tape applied to treads) & installation of new handrails to top flight and bottom flight.
Wear View to Wearside Drive: includes repairs to damaged flags and concrete sections throughout including pointing of joints (anti slip tape applied to treads).
Mayorswell Close to Ferens Close: includes replacing and relaying broken and uneven flags in ramped and stepped areas (anti slip tape applied to treads).
Magdalene Heights to Orchard Drive: includes replacing handrails with new on both sides. Edging kerbs to sides of steps, with steps and flags to be realigned and releveled as necessary (anti slip tape applied to treads).
We hope that this will make it easier and more pleasurable to walk between the different areas of the city.
