Play areas and leisure centre open again

by Group Office on 27 July, 2020

We have been pushing the council to get play areas and Freeman’s Quay Leisure Centre open again.

We are pleased to announce that on 25 July the play areas at St Oswald’s, rear of The Chains, Allergate and at Hallgarth View (off Whinney Hill) will reopen. Wharton Park opened last week.

Freemans Quay Leisure Centre will reopening from Monday, 27 July. Initially, only gyms and fitness classes will return, with further services being reinstated when it is possible to ensure they are provided safely.

All sessions will need to be booked in advance either online or over the phone. Safety measures will include the repositioning of gym equipment to accommodate social distancing, limited numbers and movement during classes and additional hand sanitiser stations. Signage has also been installed to help people move around the centre in a safe way. The Council will be contacting all customers directly to inform them of the changes to the service. Membership fees remain frozen during July and August.

More information is also available on the council’s website http://www.durham.gov.uk/leisure
