We have been pushing for improvements at the Gala and were successful in securing funding for this financial year for a makeover of the entrance areas.

Work at the Gala Theatre and Cinema will include improvements to the foyer, bar area and box office areas as well as the introduction of an updated till system.

The changes are being made to improve facilities for customers, creating more welcoming, inviting and fit-for-purpose public areas.

The Gala has been closed to visitors since March as a result of Government restrictions introduced to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The improvement works, planned before the closure but delayed due to the pandemic, will now start in the next few weeks. We are hopeful that the Gala will reopen to visitors in January 2021.

The investment is much needed and will significantly improve the experience for everyone visiting the Gala and will, we hope, bring in new visitors as we move on from the Covid-19.

The closure means the theatre and cinema’s autumn programme has been cancelled, including the pantomime. This year’s show was due to be Robin Hood. It will now take place during Christmas 2021. Many of us might welcome his message of taking from the rich to give to the poor!
