Local Liberal Democrats, along with a great many Durham residents, were shocked and saddened to hear of the death of our colleague Judith Atkinson, who served our area on the City of Durham Parish Council.

Judith cared passionately about the environment, both locally and globally, and wanted both a cleaner city and to create a better world for future generations.

She worked in adult education until she retired in 2012, prior to her election to the council. Judith loved spending time with her grandchildren and regularly attended St Oswald’s Church. Councillor Richard Ormerod said:

“Judith was a pleasure to work with and had a great sense of humour, even during times of illness. She was totally committed to getting the best for Durham and its people.”
