Good Neighbours snow scheme

by Group Office on 22 January, 2020

Students and the parish council are teaming up together to help clear paths during snowy weather.
The “Good Neighbour” scheme has been launched by the City of Durham Parish Council to help people living in the city get out and about during bad weather.
More than 100 students have already signed up to get involved and are being kitted out by the parish council, which has bought shovels, brooms, high-vis vests, signs and a mini-gritter.
Councillor David Freeman said:
“It is great that we have been able to set up this scheme with the student union. They have a team of people who will be able to be deployed across the city. Many students in Durham do want to give back to the local community.
“Many streets in Durham City can become dangerous when it snows and people can find it difficult to get out and about. I hope this will help when bad weather inevitably comes every year.”

Anyone who would like a problem area tackled during periods of snow should contact the parish council by emailing [email protected]
