Music in the Old Durham Gardens – 14 July

by Elvet & Gilesgate Lib Dems on 28 June, 2019

The Friends of Old Durham Gardens are holding their Music In The Gardens fundraising event on Sunday the 14th July 1.00 to 4.30pm.  This event will be similar to the very successful event held last year. The music is planned to finish at 4.00pm and the event will close at 4.30pm.

Entrance is free (donations are welcomed), there are now five groups featuring Appalachian, choral, jazz, folk, popular and blues music.

Some refreshments are provided from about 12.30 including hot and cold drinks and home baking with savoury and sweet options.  A plant stall will be available for plant sales.  A few chairs are provided, however, please bring a rug and/or chairs if you want to.

For the event, only disabled and musician parking is available at the gardens.  Other parking is available at the University Graham Sports Centre at Maiden Castle which is now approximately a 12 minute signposted walk away as the bridge over Old Durham beck is still closed following 2012’s heavy rain.  From the centre of Durham, the gardens are a 15-20 minute signposted walk.

If you do park at Maiden Castle, please note that Durham University is now enforcing car parking there and YOU WILL NEED TO REGISTER YOUR CAR AT THE SPORTS CENTRE RECEPTION after arrival.  There will be some building work in progress on the site, however, we are advised that there will be parking available.

If anyone would like to help on the day, or for an hour or two, with various activities such as:

Baking a cake or helping in the refreshment marquee

Help in serving at the plant stall

Help in the control of the car park

Circulating posters advertising the event

then please contact:  [email protected]
