Deep clean for North Road

by Elvet & Gilesgate Lib Dems on 1 June, 2019

North Road is to be revitalised with a deep clean and treatment.

The City of Durham Parish Council has approved a proposal to carry out the work in a bid to give the area a much-needed boost.

The council has been working closely with Durham County Council’s Clean and Green team to assess what actions the it may be able to take to further enhance the cleanliness and appearance of areas in the area.

As part of this work, North Road was identified as having a significant issue with dirty pavements.

Cllr Mandy Ross, a member of the Environment Committee, said:

“In particular, there is an issue of chewing gum on the pavement. It is a blight on our city and very difficult to remove.”

The work on North Road is due to begin mid-June and will take approximately a week to complete.

The work will involve an intensive deep clean to remove all dirt and grime, then a further treatment with specialist cleaning products to draw out stubborn stains.

Finally there will be a protective coating which will make chewing gum removal much easier.

The area to be cleaned and treated on North Road starts at Neville Street and comes down to the North Road end of Framwellgate Bridge and includes both sides of the pavement.
