For many years we criticised the Council over its failure to control ‘To Let’ boards in the city centre.

Councillor David Freeman said:

“These boards disfigure our streets and are unnecessary anyway for students looking for new properties to rent.

“The Council put too much faith a voluntary scheme which half the landlords did not sign up to.

“We have always said that the Council should get an Article 7 Regulation Order which would ban the signs.”

At last the Council is now acting with a decision expected shortly to ask the Secretary of State for theses powers. The bad news is that even then there is a 12 month period before the powers come in. If Labour had listened to us they would have had these powers years ago.
