Cathedral Bus

by Elvet & Gilesgate Lib Dems on 27 April, 2017

Residents have asked about the possibility of the Cathedral Bus service having an extra pickup further down The Sands.

Councillors Richard Ormerod and David Freeman fully support this as it would make it easier for residents of Ferens Close, Ferens Park and Orchard Drive to get into the city centre.

Unfortunately the Council has not agreed to this because of issues with buses having to reverse.

However, the council offers the “Link2” “demand responsive” service.

The service operates on Mon-Fri between 0800 and 1800, with all journeys requiring pre-booking by ringing DCC’s Travel Response Centre on 03000 269999 during office hours Mon-Fri.

Journeys can be up to 5 miles in length, and can be booked up to 14 days in advance on a first come first served basis. Ordinary bus fares are charged so people can use concessionary passes as on normal buses.

The link2 bus is longer than the Cathedral bus, so if the Cathedral bus can/’t turn round how will the link2 bus turn round. Many years ago, one of the drivers told me that the cathedral bus used to come along the sands. If that statement was correct, what did it do then. All it needs is a track cutting through the grass area between Orchard drive and the river pathway and it would make a turning circle. A volunteer party could do it if the council won’t
